HOORAY: DAR Headquarters is Reopening!

Denise Doring VanBuren, President General

After 16 months of closures due to the pandemic, I am beyond thrilled to share that we will soon reopen our House Beautiful at 1776 D Street!

It is a pleasure for me to further share that members will receive priority in being the first to re-enter our building, in gratitude for your patience as we worked through various limitations throughout the last year. Thank you for your understanding, and please know how grateful I am for your kindness to our staff and one another during the recent difficult months.

The reopening is planned as follows:

- Monday, July 12:  All DAR staff have returned in person to our DAR offices. We welcome them back, and we thank them for ensuring the continuity of our operations despite the uncertainty of the recent year.

- Thursday, July 15:  Headquarters will open exclusively for DAR members on Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Members may visit to use the DAR Library, tour the DAR Museum, shop at the DAR Store and enjoy all other activities. Daughters visiting during this time should enter through the C Street doors. Please note, however, that DAR members wishing to meet with staff are required to schedule appointments with staff members in advance; walk-in meetings will not be accommodated.

- Wednesday, September 1:  DAR Headquarters will open to the general public and hours of operation will return to normal.

- September 15 – November 15: DAR state delegations will have the option to arrange special visits through their state regent in order to visit to DAR Headquarters for specially designated days. More information will be forthcoming to state leadership and all details will be facilitated by the members of the Property Beautification and Hospitality Committee, whom we thank for their kindness and enthusiasm.

We fully expect that “pent up” demand will cause a great deal of interest in reconnecting with our buildings and our employees in the weeks and months ahead. And so, I ask that you continue to be patient as we readjust to normal operations and resume our services.

It’s true: if we can just hold on just a little bit longer, ladies, and I know that the clouds will part and full sun will return to our forecast! Grab your sunscreen and shades!
