Reporting on Business, Raising the Curtain on The Next Act!

Denise Doring VanBuren, President General

I hope that you joined me last night in cheering on so many outstanding young people during our enjoyable Education Awards Night. I also again extend sincere congratulations to our Outstanding Junior Member, Rebecca Hough. A member of the Martha Washington Chapter, Rebecca Hough has served as national vice chair, state chair, state vice chair, chapter regent, chapter officer and chapter chair. She has served as both a Page and delegate at her state conference and Continental Congress. She has served as an officer in her State’s Chapter Regents Club and Page Club and as a senior leader for the Children of the American Revolution. Rebecca has completed the New Members and New Horizons DAR Leadership courses, has multiple Member for Member credits and has participated in the NSDAR Patriot Records Project. You can view the entire Thursday night ceremony here.

I look very much forward to hearing about the accomplishments of Daughters everywhere through today’s business session featuring the reports of our remaining State Regents; we will also learn more about the Candidates for the Office of Vice President General and Honorary Vice Presidents General.

Today we also have many special events outside of our official sessions. The DAR School Committee will hold its virtual luncheon, along with the Commemorative Events Committee Awards Presentation and the Lineage Research and Volunteer Genealogists Support Teams social. Finally, we invite you to the “Your Act: Donor Gratitude Celebration” this evening to thank our generous donors.

Tonight’s Constitution Hall Restoration Celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. ET! During this historic ceremony, we will both commemorate the rich history and premiere the newly renovated Constitution Hall, which has very nearly completed a more than $14 million restoration. In a companion celebration of historic preservation, we will shine a spotlight on several organizations that share our passion for preserving history. We will be presenting the National Trust for Historic Preservation with the President General’s Medallion, the White House Historical Association with the DAR Historic Preservation Medal and the PBS series American Experience with the DAR Media and Entertainment Award. Wow! A powerhouse of preservation!
