One week from today, Giving Tuesday 2020, will provide your opportunity to be a part of our exciting #BeAShiningStar campaign — as we work together to bring back “concerts under the stars” at historic DAR Constitution Hall. As a “Shining Star,” you may sponsor an individual LED lay light tile for $300 (and be recognized on our Donor Wall) or contribute at any level that meets your needs. Donations of all sizes will be needed to reach our goal of restoring nearly 1,000 lay light tiles in DAR Constitution Hall for #GivingTuesday.
Your Chance to Be a Shining Star!
Architect John Russell Pope designed a monumental overhead lay light for our auditorium — it provided for natural lighting by day and starlight overhead by evening. It was painted over, however, in the 1950s for heating purposes, and then covered by a solar array a decade ago. Our ongoing restoration of the hall now includes custom-designed LED technology that will enable us — for the first time in seven decades — to replicate the original lighting planned by Mr. Pope. Won’t you help us aim for the stars?
Thanks to a special Matching Challenge Grant from an anonymous donor, the first $10,000 of donations made to our #BeAShiningStar campaign will be matched dollar for dollar! If your circumstances allow, I hope that you will visit www.dar.org/shiningstar now to help us secure these matching funds and achieve our goal of selling 1,000 overhead stars
Want to do more? You can even help us to illuminate our lay light by signing up as a “Shooting Star” to put together your own fundraising team to “sell starlight,” just as we “sold sunshine” during the 129th Continental Congress. It is simple to do and gives you an opportunity to share your love of historic preservation with your friends, family and others in your social network to benefit this large restoration project
To make your #GivingTuesday donation, create your own team of Shooting Star fundraisers or find more information on this renovation, visit www.dar.org/shiningstar or leave a message with the Office of Development at (800) 449–1776.
It is my hope that we will stage the 130th Continental Congress in person next June. We are planning a celebration of The Next Act campaign for Friday evening, when we will unveil the new overhead starlight. I hope that you will accept my invitation to light up the night with your participation — as we together Rise and Shine for our National Historic Landmark. So, let’s get started: I hope to see you take your place among the stars on Giving Tuesday!
