Volunteer with the Genealogical Records Committee!

Nancy Ball, National Chair, Genealogical Records Committee

Have you been considering volunteering for the Genealogical Records Committee project? Not sure what it involves, or how to get started? Or has it been a long time since your last foray? We have you covered! The GRC has a brand new webinar that will take you step-by-step through the process of collecting primary records to submitting them to the DAR Library.

Thanks to the hard work of the committee, both of our GRC reference manuals have also been updated in 2020 and are available on our GRC Committee Page, the Librarian General’s forms page and in the GRC section of the NIP.  They can answer any of the more detailed questions you might have that are not covered in the webinar. If you still have questions please contact your chapter or state GRC representative or email the DAR Library at [email protected].

We're also excited to announce that as of 2020, NSDAR is now accepting both physical and electronic submissions for GRC volumes! Details can be found in the webinar and in the new manuals. We're very happy to report that this change is already increasing the number of submissions and the speed with which we can process submitted volumes.

In addition to our ongoing work, the GRC Committee has issued two challenges to all our members. The "Ten Pages Chapter Challenge" encourages every chapter to contribute ten pages of documents to a GRC volume this year. The pages can include Bible records, cemetery records, wills or land records, or any other relevant GRC documents.

The “New Children of Patriots Challenge” asks members to locate wills and probate records of Patriots so that we can discover additional children not already listed in the Genealogical Research System and GRC. This is an opportunity to review the research on your own Patriot ancestors to be sure that all of their descendants have been documented.

Remember: One new document might make the difference in a new membership Application, a new Supplemental Application -- or even your own brick wall! And every new document will make our DAR Library even better than it is already.
