Support Junior Membership: Walk, Run, Swim, Paddle, Bike the Firefly 5K!

Liz Fritsch Ciarrocchi, National Vice Chair, Junior Events

As of this writing, 1,480 Daughters, spouses, friends, family, neighbors and especially those amazing glowworms (our kids) have been lighting up the roadways and spreading SUNSHINE across America as they participate in the Inaugural Junior Membership Firefly 5K!

While preparing for our historic Virtual Continental Congress, the Junior Membership Committee came up with a healthy, fun and engaging way for our members from across the globe to support the Junior Membership Helen Pouch Memorial Fund.  We got creative and created this event in place of the in-person fundraising opportunities usually afforded us during Continental Congress.

The Firefly 5K is easy. You can walk, run, swim, paddle, bike, skip or whatever form of exercise you prefer. There is no reporting necessary and it is easy to sign up online!  Registration (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/junior-membership-firefly-5k-walkrun-tickets-86698079289) includes the beautiful medal shown.

We NEED you to help us to reach our goals and continue to spread the SUNSHINE across the globe. We are reaching toward 1,500 registrations by July 17 and hope to top 2,000 registrations by the end of the month! You do NOT have to be a member or DAR to participate, and this virtual event is open to all anyone who would like to support Junior Membership.

Our Executive Board members are setting the bar high with 100% participation! Is your VPG class registered?  Are all our State Regents ready to hit the roadways?  What about your State or Chapter Officers?  Share and encourage your states to register!

Which state will have the greatest number of registrations?

Which state will have the highest percentage of members registered?

Who will be the best dressed Firefly 5K participant?

Can we do it? YES WE CAN!

For those not familiar, the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund (HPMF) was authorized in 1938, and finances projects chosen by the Junior Membership Committee with approval of the NSDAR Executive Committee. Projects include annual contributions to the DAR Schools, the National Junior Committee Project, and the Junior Membership Classroom Grants Program. The annual Junior Membership Committee funding commitment through HPMF is more than $120,000, and at the 2020 Continental Congress, the Junior Membership Committee announced gifts totaling more than $240,000. We meet this commitment through contributions to the Fund from the sale of NSDAR-approved Junior Sales products, general donations to the fund and other fundraisers like the Firefly 5K.

If you have any questions please email Liz Fritsch Ciarrocchi, National Vice Chair Junior Events at [email protected]. THANK YOU ALL for your support of Junior membership!
