Virtual 129th Continental Congress National Luncheons

Denise Doring VanBuren, President General

We are just days closer to our historic 129th virtual Continental Congress, and I am thrilled to share more about some of the events that will take place next week. Our National Committees have worked hard to arrange for virtual luncheons that will honor the work of our members and the Society – and I hope you will take full advantage of them.

On Wednesday, the Patriotism Luncheon’s program will focus on Honoring the Heroes Among Us. It will recognize 315 Daughters who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. National Committee chairs will review the amazing accomplishments of Daughters around the world, and a NEW pin will be unveiled that may be worn on the Official Insignia Ribbon. A record attendance is expected – plan now to be a part of this historic event.

Thursday, the Units Overseas Committee will hold its annual luncheon. Working together with units around the world, the committee will celebrate the lives and service of our Daughters abroad. The DAR Units Overseas Committee is comprised of international members of 20 chapters in 11 countries and one U.S. territory, helping to advance DAR’s mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism.

The Historic Preservation Committee will also host its committee luncheon on Thursday. National contest winners at both the state and chapter levels of the Historic Preservation Project Contest will be announced. Other highlights of the work of the committee will be shared, as well. Registration is required, although there is no cost to participate.

On Friday the National DAR School Committee will host the Hooked on DAR Schools Virtual Congress Event. Awards will be announced, and gifts presented from the Friends of the DAR School Fund. This is a unique opportunity for all Daughters to view the presentation that usually occurs at the Continental Congress Luncheon. The first 1,000 attendees to log in on June 26 will receive a free gift! The DAR School Committee thrives on its mission of promoting education, one of DAR’s three founding objectives. The committee supports six schools – and invites you to be an o-fish-all participant this year!

In addition to these nationally sponsored events, many states and clubs are conducting events; workshops and presentations are also scheduled. I encourage you to visit the Members’ Website to view the entire calendar of exciting Congress events. Make some history by attending as many as possible from the comfort of your computer screen!
