The Ohio State Conference

Travel to Columbus Ohio was just what one hopes it will be; the flight was on time, the weather was perfect and I was eager to renew friendships with the Ohio Daughters. I arrived just in time to attend the State Officers Club dinner celebrating the Waldschmidt Homestead. I had a wonderful time learning about the many ways Ohio fulfills the mission of the National Society. Saturday morning, my personal page, Christina Wagner drove me to Cincinnati, Ohio for travel to the Kentucky State Conference.

Ohio Daughters kicked off their 119^th State Conference March 22-25, 2018, in Dublin, OH, welcoming President General Ann Turner Dillon and State Regents Elizabeth Graham, North Carolina; Cyndy Sweeney, Pennsylvania and Charlotte Reynolds, Tennessee. Mrs. Dillon was honored at the State Officers Club Banquet with a framed, original design cross-stitch picture of the Waldschmidt House crafted by Muriel Breyley.

Friday morning began with two workshops led by Sandra Pollack, NSDAR Development Director, on “Beyond the Bake Sale” and “Conflict Management.” The Christian Waldschmidt Homestead Luncheon showcased our historic property with a slide program showing the improvements in the Homestead since 1941. Christian Waldschmidt was a Revolutionary War Patriot who settled in New Germany, OH near Cincinnati.  During the Civil War it was renamed Camp Dennison for the 500 acre camp where over 33,000 Union soldiers mustered in and out. Members saw pictures of Phase I of the State Regent’s Project of repairing, replacing and repainting the Yankee Gutters and repairing, reglazing and repainting the 20 windows.  David Mowry gave a most informative program on Morgan’s Raiders, who threatened Camp Dennison on their raid through Ohio. 

Members of the Heritage and Founders Clubs enjoyed the reception hosted by the President General and the NSDAR Development Office.  Friday evening we processed in to the music of Heritage Fifes and Drums.  Everyone enjoyed Mrs. Dillon’s talk on “A Look at the National Society.”  Mrs. Dillon presented certificates to the thirty chapters who had 100% participating in the President General’s Project followed by the presentation of certificates to the forty-three graduates of the New Member and New Horizon courses.  Mrs. Dillon was presented with a donation to her President General’s Project, a silver Ohio charm, and a beautiful quilt made by Marty and Brandy Warthman.  

State Conference concluded with a beautiful Memorial Service led by State Chaplain Gwen McGuire. The Southeast District Daughters pieced and sewed quilt blocks for our centerpieces. The quilt blocks will be made into Valor Quilts to be presented to Veterans.  The Ohio Daughters supported our State Conference community service projects, by donating $4,366.20 in items for the USO at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and over 4,400 items to “Support the Girls.”  Ohio Daughters are proud to be “Sowing Seeds of Service, Outreach, and Love” as we “Move Forward in Service to America.”
