A Nationally Recognized Leader in Historic Preservation

Ann Dillon, President General

As many of you may know, membership dues account for only 30% of the NSDAR operating budget, so giving to the National Society at year-end makes an enormous difference in our work. Annual donations to the President General’s Project, the NSDAR General Fund, Guardian Trust Endowment and other important funds and programs help to uphold our mission to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. This is why your donations particularly at this time of year are so important.

What you may not know is that your generous donations have done more than help us restore and renovate our home. Through your support and dedication, DAR Headquarters won an American Institute of Architects (AIA) DC merit award for Historic Resources/Preservation! The work of Quinn Evans ArchitectsThe Christman Company and other subcontractors on the DAR Library Lay Light and the Constitution Hall lobby is recognized through this prestigious award. This award belongs to every member past and present, that has had a hand in supporting our organization through funds such as:

  • The President General’s Project - Your donations to the President General’s Project have been instrumental in the Phase Two Renovations of DAR Constitution Hall, the DAR Museum Renovation, the restoration of the Connecticut Board Room, the Mississippi Fountain and countless other preservation projects in our community and in communities all across the country. Learn how you can support the PG Project.
  • The NSDAR General Fund - Gifts to the General Fund provide immediate support for the day-to-day operations of NSDAR Headquarters. Your contributions help us protect and care for more than 30,000 historic portraits, photographs, documents and other precious artifacts by providing precise temperature and moisture levels at all times to preserve these delicate treasures. • The Guardian Trust - An unprecedented showing of support to the Guardian Trust Campaign and Endowment has enabled not only the completion of the Phase One Renovations of DAR Constitution Hall, but also the establishment of a permanent and perpetual foundation for our financial security. This newly established fund will sustain financial contributions in perpetuity in order to provide for the preservation of our historic property. Click here to support the Guardian Trust Endowment

Receiving national recognition for our historic preservation work is very gratifying. Each of us should be proud of the part we have played in completing these important projects, because without you and your support, none of this would be possible.

Please keep NSDAR in your thoughts this week as you make plans for completing year-end donations. Remember, your gift needs to be completed by December 31, 2017 to be deductible on your 2017 income taxes. Gifts to the NSDAR General Fund also need to be completed by December 31 in order to receive recognition in the 1890 Annual Giving Circle.

The Office of Development is available all this week and on December 28 and 29 to work with you to create a year-end gift that best fits your circumstances and our needs. To learn more about the benefits of making a year-end gift to NSDAR, please call the Office of Development at (800) 449–1776 (M–F, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST), or send us an email inquiry any time PRIOR to December 21 at [email protected].
