Ready to Sparkle in Service?

Pamela Wright, President General

Thank you for joining us last night for the Education Awards Ceremony! I enjoyed hearing from young people and educators who share our common passion for history. I was proud to showcase the first place winners of the American Heritage Contest via video and if you missed it or want to see it again, you can find it here. I also want to give a special thank you to the Allentown Band and the All-American DAR Chorus for their musical performances last night. They both sounded lovely. You can either watch for the first time or rewatch last night's ceremony on our YouTube channel here

I want to congratulate Ashley Smith Wasser of New Jersey who is our Outstanding Junior! A member of the Ferro Monte Chapter, Ashley Lynne Smith Wasser just concluded her 14th year of teaching. Wasser has also earned her Masters in Education Curriculum and Instruction as a Reading Specialist. She is the current National Vice Chair of Community Classroom for Curriculum Resources for PreK-5th Grades. She has spent 13 years as a Chapter Officer and previously held many state chair and vice chair positions. She has paged at New Jersey state conferences for 13 years and 18 years at Continental Congress. She is involved in C.A.R. senior leadership, having served as Senior State president. Congrats Ashley for embodying the DAR's mission!

I hope you are just as excited as I am for Sparkle in Service Night tonight in the Ballroom Level of the JW Marriott from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. I hope you will join me for this free, come-and-go event. Sparkle in Service is designed to introduce Daughters to how you can become more involved in our dynamic mission areas. There will also be moments for hands-on Service in Seconds opportunities. Join me as well as the Sparkle in Service Committee in fun, service, and the recognition of this year’s contest winners.

But first, of course, we resumed daytime business sessions, where we heard the reports of the State Regents. The business sessions of Congress are a great place to gain new ideas for projects or initiatives from State Regents – ideas that you can take back to your own states and chapters. We also heard the nominations of candidates for the office of Vice President General and Honorary Vice President General.

Today is jammed pack with all kinds of activities—Congress doesn’t let up! After the Morning Business Session, I’ll get my picture made with all the Pages. After that, I’m looking forward to attending the Education Luncheon. From 2:30 to 5 p.m., there is also a DAR Genealogy Commission Networking Social that is a can’t-miss!

Don’t forget to check out the Insignia Sales from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Junior Shoppe, President General’s Table, and the Congress Shop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—all of which are in Constitution Hall! When you are over at the hotel make sure to stop by the Sparkle Showroom just off the main first floor lobby for the President General Project Sales!

I’ll see you all tonight at Sparkle in Service Night! Have a great day!
