The New DAR Library Catalog

Stephanie Tuszynski, DAR Library Director

After two years of intense preparation, the DAR Library has launched their new online catalog! The new software, Primo, will make searching the Library’s resources significantly easier. The main page features an easy to use single search field, and the new catalog allows you to filter the results in a number of ways that were not possible in the old catalog.

From the top of the new page, you can type in any keywords you want and Primo will offer a list of results. Then, much like searches on Amazon, you can use the options on the left hand side to filter the results by author, resource type, creation date, and more. These new options will greatly speed up running searches and finding the precise title you are looking for in the catalog.

The new Primo catalog still allows you to search both the book and manuscripts collections as well as the entire GRC collection in a single search, but it also gives you options to email a catalog entry to yourself or print it out, so you can prepare before your trip to D.C. and make a list of any books you want to look at before you go!

Another new feature is the “Virtual Shelf” which will show you other books that are nearby the book you are looking at. This gives our visitors a way to browse the shelves from home and see what’s available in a state or on a family before they get to the Library.

The new catalog is in beta testing, so follow the DAR Library on Facebook for updates on new features as they roll out.
