The 132nd Continental Congress Week Begins!

Pamela Wright, President General

Welcome back to our historic National Headquarters! I am thrilled to Celebrate Stars and Stripes Forever! with you for the 132nd Continental Congress. I am thankful for another year where thousands of you can join us for this historic occasion in person —and thousands more will surely join us online for all our official sessions held in Constitution Hall.

Congress attendees may check in on-site at Registration in the We the People Dining Hall throughout today (11 a.m. through 6 p.m.). At registration, each attendee receives her welcome packet, which contains the official Congress Program, Congress Insider’s Guide and her ID badge. Refer to these items and the Congress App to find maps and information for all our exciting events this week. Didn’t have a chance to pre-register, and still wish to attend? Just head down to the We the People Dining Hall in the lower level of the Administration Building for on-site registration!

It has already been a joy to reconnect with friends as they have begun to arrive in Washington, D.C. This morning I participated in the Daughter’s Tribute Wreath Laying Ceremony. Along with the ceremony, we had the dedication of the Lena Santos Ferguson Memorial. DAR Member, Lena Ferguson, was a catalyst for change within the DAR, inspiring action to ensure no chapter may discriminate against an applicant because of race or creed. It was my pleasure to honor her and her legacy this morning.

Then, I joined our National Board of Management for the final formal meeting before Congress, followed by a luncheon in the Banquet Hall. A highlight of this evening will be gathering with those who have served as State Regents, Vice Presidents General and Executive Officers for the always-enjoyable National Officers Club Banquet.

Whether it’s your first time at Headquarters or you frequent it, we hope you’ll take time to explore our outstanding DAR Museum, DAR Library and Americana Collection, and tap into new resources to share with others back home. Please also take time to get to know and thank our talented DAR staff members who work tirelessly throughout the year to further the DAR mission. I am excited to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year while looking toward the future with new ideas.

If you are joining us virtually this week, you can find the livestream on the Congress Website here. I encourage you to also connect with us on social media on Facebook and Instagram and view photos here. For those of us who are here in person, please also be sure to share your best Congress photos via the hashtags #DARCC23 #ShareMyDARCC23!

Lastly, we are running a special promotion this week for subscriptions to DAR’s award winning American Spirit Magazine – this week only, you can purchase a 2-year subscription for only $45. Support our publications and take advantage of this special limited offer! Click here to purchase a subscription.

Let’s Rejoice in Our DAR Ties of Service and Friendship! Again, I am looking forward to seeing all of you for another great Congress!
