Washington State Visit

Christine Crowder, Washington State Regent

I had so much fun visiting the Washington State Daughters for their State Conference. The conference was held in Seattle, known for its iconic Space Needle, thriving tech industry, and vibrant arts scene. Washington state is also the home of Recording Secretary General Lanabeth Horgen. Despite its reputation for rain, the sun came out, showing us why this state is nicknamed the Evergreen State! I’d like to thank State Regent Christine Crowder for her hospitality, my Pages Amy Brooks and Katlin Standiford for their assistance, and Emmelyn Hart for providing my transportation. Thank you again Washington State Daughters for an amazing weekend!

-Pamela Wright, President General

Washington State Daughters were honored to have our President General, Pamela Rouse Wright visit during our 2024 State Conference held in Seattle, Washington, May 2 – 5, 2024.

The theme for the state conference was Make the Change – Moving Forward in DAR. We had a full schedule of events, including a Chapter Regents Meet and Greet Social where incoming and current chapter regents had an opportunity to get to know one another before giving the annual reports. Tension mounted as our chapter regents awaited who would be announced as the Vivian E. Bower Outstanding Chapter Regent Awardee. Congratulations to Christeen Olson from Esther Reed Chapter!

The Hannah White Arnett Award went to a SAR member whose long-time support of DAR is more than appreciated by Washington Daughters.

All Washington chapters received 100% participation in the President General’s Project and chapter regents were thrilled to receive their certificate from Mrs. Wright.

The State Regent’s Project of the Fisher House Foundation’s Hero Programs received generous contributions, including travel-size shampoos, lotions and soaps to share with our local Fisher House comfort homes.

Will Anderson, Hindman Settlement School Director spoke at the Make the Future Matter Luncheon where the American History Essay winner presented his essay.

Our Gala Sparkle Banquet where the President General was the honored speaker had a few surprises. The Literacy Champion Award was presented to The Boys in the Boat, and we were excited to have the daughter of Joe Ranz speak to us about this incredible story. The Outstanding Junior was announced. Katlin Standiford from Narcissa Whitman Chapter was truly surprised to receive this honor.

The President General and Idaho State Regent, Janice Beller visited the Rainier Chapter House in Seattle. Designed to look like Mt Vernon, this historic building was built in 1925.

We closed the conference with the Memorial Service, honoring those who passed away during the year.

As State Regent, I was excited to see so many first-time attendees and a record number of Daughters attending the State Conference. The State Regent’s theme of Make DAR Matter was truly on display during our conference.
