Those attending the 132nd Continental Congress were excited to learn that the Inheritance Project has expanded to include sisters! You may now inherit Patriots for whom your sisters, along with your mothers and maternal grandmothers, have a proven Application or Supplemental Application. There’s no need to submit a Supplemental on these Patriot Ancestors!
Let’s review how the program works: Daughters who wish to inherit their mother’s, maternal grandmother’s or sister’s Patriots complete an online form and pay a $50 non-refundable processing fee. Inheritance will be established using existing approved Applications and Supplemental Applications. Once authorized, a member will be notified via an automated email and the Genealogical Research System (GRS) will be updated. Inherited Patriots will be listed on a member’s profile page beneath her existing Ancestors, under the heading “Inherited Ancestors.”
Participating members will be authorized to purchase and wear Ancestor Bars for all inherited Patriots. Additionally, Daughters will be allowed to wear their mother’s and grandmother’s bars if desired, making them family heirlooms that may be passed down for generations to come.

Make sure to include the correct spelling of your name, your mother’s name and/or your grandmother or sister’s name. Be careful to insert their correct national number(s) so that processing is not delayed.
Eligibility Requirements
- At this time, the Inheritance Project is limited to mothers, maternal grandmothers and sisters only.
- Patriot Ancestors coded “Future Applicants Must Prove Service” may not be inherited.
- Patriot Ancestors with specific lineages coded “Error in Lineage” (EL) or “Future Applicants Must Prove Correct Lineage” (FAMPCL) MAY NOT BE INHERITED.
- While a member may inherit Patriots from a deceased or inactive mother, grandmother or sister, the mother, grandmother or sister in this authorized relationship must be alive and active in order to inherit Patriots.
