National DAR Service to America Project's New Mask Donation Website

Mary Tedesco, National Chair, Service to America Committee

The Service to America Committee is pleased to announce the launch of our new National DAR Service to America Project website! This new website connects DAR volunteers sewing homemade face masks with organizations in need of mask donations. Since the National DAR Service to America Project was initiated on March 21st, DAR members in the USA and abroad have sewn over 200,000 homemade face masks for those in need, including military personnel, Native Americans, healthcare workers, essential workers, immunocompromised individuals and others. The new website will play an essential role in the fulfillment of mask donation requests.

Volunteer sewers are needed!

There is a great need for homemade face masks, and Daughters, we need your help! The phrase, “it takes a village,” certainly applies to this project, since donation requests totaling over 60,000 masks have already been received through the new National DAR Service to America Project website. Dedicated DAR volunteers who sign-up to sew masks using the new website will be sewing masks for organizations who will benefit greatly, including a National Guard unit, Native Americans, medical facilities and others in need.

How does the National DAR Service to America Project website work?

  1. An organization in need of masks (eg: military base, medical facility, grocery store, etc) submits the Mask Donation Request Form.
  2. A volunteer from our Service to America Mask Task Force verifies the request.
  3. A DAR volunteer mask-maker fills-out the Volunteer Form on the website and indicates how many masks she can make in 7 days. Whether you’re able to sew one mask or one hundred masks, your contribution will be valued and appreciated!
  4. A volunteer from the Service to America Mask Task Force matches the DAR volunteer mask-maker with an organization in need of a mask donation and emails her the information to get started.
  5. The DAR volunteer mask-maker sews the masks. Then, she mails or delivers the masks to the organization in need. She may then fill-out the Volunteer Form again if she would like to sew and donate additional masks.

DAR Mask Count Survey – Please log your masks and PPE numbers!

Please help us capture the magnitude of the National DAR Service to America Project by logging the masks and PPE items you have donated into our DAR Mask Count Survey at http://surveymonkey.com/r/DARSTA2020. The survey can be filled-out multiple times as new masks and PPE items are made.
