Wherever you find DAR, you will find Daughters completing outstanding service projects on behalf of our mission to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. This year, thousands of Daughters commemorated the fifth annual National DAR Day of Service by volunteering in their local communities. Daughters prepared blessings bags for veterans, sent cards and care packages to active duty military, made mats for the homeless, cleaned neglected gravestones, helped maintain historical properties, delivered baked goods to hard-working first responders, contributed to local conservation efforts, packed cases of food for children in need and much more.

Now, the Service to America Committee is delighted to introduce a new national recognition for this meaningful volunteerism: the Service to America Award for Outstanding National DAR Day of Service Project. The new Service to America Award recognizes exceptional community service projects completed during the month of October. Two national winners, one chapter and one state, will be recognized at Continental Congress 2020 with the presentation of the inaugural awards.

So, please take a moment tell us all about your project and its impact on your community by submitting an entry. The deadline to submit your service project is fast approaching: December 15, 2019.  Entering your project is simple to do using the online submission form.  Remember that your service project must be completed between October 1 and October 31, 2019. Three or more DAR members must participate in the project, and each DAR chapter may submit one entry per calendar year.

The Service to America Award will first be judged at the division level. The Division Vice Chairs will select one chapter winner and one state winner from among their entries. Then the National Chair will select the two national winners, one chapter and one state, from among the division winners. More information about the judging criteria is available on the Service to America website. If you have questions, please contact your Division Vice Chair of the Service to America Committee or post your question in the Service to America Facebook group. Additional details, submission instructions and the link to submit your project can be found by here:

We’re eager to learn about they meaningful ways that your chapter celebrated the National DAR Day of Service. Sincerest thanks to all Daughters for making a difference in local communities by Rising and Shining in Service to America!
