Service to America and the National DAR Day of Service

Let’s Rise and Shine in Service to America! Meaningful community service has played a central role in DAR’s mission since our Society’s founding in 1890. DAR Founder Eugenia Washington said, “We want a society founded on service.” The Service to America Committee is focused on demonstrating the positive volunteer opportunities associated with DAR membership and capturing the magnitude of service hours that DAR members regularly provide in their local communities across the country and around the world using our Service to America online tally.

The Service to America Committee’s goal for the VanBuren Administration is to log more than 10 million volunteer hours into our online tally. Service to America hours include meaningful community service and volunteer activities, including DAR volunteering, such as serving as a chapter officer or committee chair. Please click here to log your volunteer hours into our online tally. Can we exceed our 10 million hour Service to America goal? YES, WE CAN!

National DAR Day of Service – October 11, 2019

To honor the anniversary of DAR’s founding on October 11, chapters and individuals are encouraged to engage in meaningful service projects in their communities each year on or around October 11. Choose a project that you are passionate about such as sending cards of encouragement to active duty military, collecting books for school children in need, cleaning up a cemetery, organizing a community blood drive and many more. Be creative! There are countless ways to make a difference in your local community.

Then be sure to post about your National DAR Day of Service projects on your personal, chapter and state society social media accounts using the hashtag #DARDayOfService. Also, share project photos and stories in our Service to America Facebook group. And of course, log your volunteer hours for your DAR Day of Service projects into our online tally. Every hour makes a difference!
