New Library Book Donation Form

Luca Dragani, DAR Library Acquisitions Assistant

In order to best serve our members, prospective members and other genealogical researchers, the DAR Library has a strong focus on acquiring new books and materials to build our Collection of genealogical resources.  One major source of these new resources is the donation of relevant books, serials, and other genealogical materials by our members and by the public.

To make the book donation process faster and easier for those members and individuals who would like to help us grow our Library, we are happy to announce the launch of our new online Library Donation Form and donation approval procedure! This new online form will streamline the book donation process with increased automation and will feature a user friendly interface to assist donors in the submission of donation approval requests.  The form can be found on the DAR Library Donation Information page.  Please note that this new process and form are for those members who have a specific book, serial or other genealogical source that they would like to donate to the Library.  If you would like to help us grow our Collection, but do not have a specific book or item in mind to donate, then visit the Library section of the DAR Wish List.  The new book donation form does not affect the current system for Wish List donations.

The new online Library Donation Form includes fields for the author, title, and description of the book or item that you wish to donate so that our Acquisitions Staff can determine that the book meets our Collection Development requirements .  The form also allows you to enter an inscription to honor or memorialize an individual.  These inscriptions will be included on the book plate in the donated book.  Our staff will communicate with you regarding your book donation via email, so make sure that you enter a valid email address on the form.

If you would like for your chapter and state to receive book credits for your donation, be sure to fill in the chapter information fields.   Any applicable book credits will be automatically recorded in our membership database once the donated book or item is received and accepted by our Acquisitions office.  This automatic recording of book credits will mean that the reports of book donations for state librarians can be created and sent automatically so that those officers won’t have to specifically request these reports from our Acquisitions staff.

The Library Donation Form includes an overview page that outlines how this process works and identifies the types of materials that the Library can accept.  We’ve also included information icons next to many of the fields on the form.  Clicking on these icons will allow you to view a detailed description of the type of information that you need to include in each of these fields.  We hope these instructions will make the process of filling out this form as simple and straight-forward as possible.

We’re sure you will agree that the new Library Donation Form and processing procedure will be a vast improvement over the previous system and will allow for a streamlined book donation experience. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we begin the implementation of this new Library book donation process.
