I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at last evening’s Service to America Night! It was fun to walk around and explore all that was going on and visit with so many of you. Each of the committees had festively decorated tables and great information to share with the members. Remember to take a look at their Video Presentations to learn more about the committees.

Jeff Rodek gave such interesting remarks and it was wonderful to hear about the work of the American Battlefield Trust and all of the historic lands they have saved. We look forward to continuing to work closely with them as they carry out the important job of Nonprofit Partner of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission. Jeff announced during his remarks that DAR members can become members of the American Battlefield Trust at an exclusive DAR rate of $17.76! Visit Battlefields.org/welcomeDAR. You can see the video he shared during his presentation here: https://www.battlefields.org/about/road-ahead.

Today voting begins for the office of Vice President General. We will continue to hear reports of State Regents during the morning business sessions.  During the afternoon session, we will have a special presentation, “Preserving Our Past: DAR Museum, Americana Collection and NSDAR Archives,” where Heidi Campbell-Shoaf, DAR Museum Director and Chief Curator and Tracy Robinson, DAR Director of Archives and History, will give us a deeper understanding of our collections and the valuable work of their departments. Additionally during this session we will recognize generous Benefactors who have donated more than $1,250 to the President General’s Project  and those states which have reached 100% Participation.

This afternoon, I am attending the Junior Membership Luncheon. This is always a fun, energetic event and I am thankful for our Junior Members and for the amazing work they do in their communities. Many of the Presidents General and National Board of Management joined as Junior Members, so I look forward to seeing today’s Junior Members in future leadership roles.

During this evening’s National Defense Night, Rear Admiral Joseph M. Vojvodich, Deputy for Mission Support, U.S. Coast Guard, will deliver the Keynote Address. Admiral Vojvodich will discuss the important mission of the Coast Guard whose servicemembers work tirelessly to protect us on the home front, including providing support to those in need during this past year’s devastating hurricane season.

We will also present the Americanism Medal to Brigadier General Lapthe Flora, the DAR Medal of Honor to Nimrod Frazer and the Margaret Cochran Corbin Award to Vice Admiral (Ret) Nora Tyson, among other award presentations.
