Looking Forward to National Defense Night

Ann Dillon, President General

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at last evening’s Service to America Night! It was fun to walk around and explore all that was going on and visit so many of you. Each of the committees had festively decorated tables and much information to share with the members. Remember to take a look at their Video Presentations to learn more about the committees.

Michael Quinn gave such interesting remarks and it was wonderful to hear about the Museum of the American Revolution and some of the amazing, priceless artifacts from their collection.

Today voting begins for the office of Vice President General. You will vote for seven. We will continue to hear reports of State Regents during the morning business sessions.  During the afternoon session, we will have a very special membership presentation, “The Road to 250,” where members will gain helpful takeaways for growing their chapter membership. Additionally during this session we will recognize generous Benefactors who have donated more than $1,250 to the President General’s Project  and those states which have reached 100% Participation.

This afternoon, I am attending the Junior Membership Luncheon. This is always a fun energetic event and I am thankful for our Junior Members and for the amazing work they do in their communities. Many of the Presidents General joined as a Junior Member, so I look forward to seeing today’s junior members in future leadership roles.

During this evening’s National Defense Night we will be recognizing General Lori Robinson with the Margaret Cochran Corbin Award and she will give keynote remarks. Gen. Robinson is Commander of USNORTHCOM and NORAD and is the first female officer to command a major Unified Combatant Command in the history of the United States Armed Forces and she is currently the highest ranking woman in US military history. What an amazing achievement.

We will also hear from the World War I Centennial Commission and will view a special video about the work of DAR members during The Great War.

We have been having some technical difficulties with the Congress Live stream and we believe (and hope) we have now found a solution to the issues. Thank you so much for bearing with us! We plan to post the videos of the sessions soon.

Follow along with Congress social media on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and with the photos and the daily Congress Herald. Congress attendees active on social media, be sure to share your posts with us all by using the hashtag #DARCC17.

Following National Defense Night we will have the Congress Reception, where we will enjoy dessert, live music and dancing!
