Join Us for Sol Sisters and Sunbeams

Denise Doring VanBuren, President General

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am deeply grateful for your continued support of our National Society, its important mission and my administration. Allow me to also express by deep gratitude for the financial and moral support that so many of you have already provided to the restoration of DAR Constitution Hall. Thank you!

As the calendar informs me that #GivingTuesday follows Thanksgiving, I write with the hope that you will consider joining us this year to spread some additional sunshine before we close 2021 as a fellow “Sol Sister” in our final year-end campaign.

During the past two Giving Tuesday campaigns, generous Daughters have adopted seats and stars. This year, we are conducting “Sol Sisters & Sunbeams,” a fun, upbeat initiative that will kick off on #GivingTuesday, November 30, and continue through the end of the year. With your participation, this campaign will help us raise the outstanding funds needed to complete DAR Constitution Hall: The Next Act before the end of my term. Those who wish to honor a fellow Sol Sister with an inscription on our Donor Wall may do so for a contribution of $300 or more. But please know that because our goal this year is to enlist the participation of as many dedicated Daughters as possible, donations of every size are welcome.

And as a special incentive, I will send this bracelet to every #GivingTuesday donor who contributes $35 or more by December 31.* It’s a companion piece to a previous keepsake provided to other loyal donors — and a “thank you” for playing a starring role in the largest single-administration undertaking in the history of our National Society. Note the fun Sol Sister charm on this custom piece; it’s a special salute to recognize all of us who became the sunshine the nation so desperately needed throughout the pandemic. I hope you will wear it with pride, knowing that you played a vital role in our National Society’s service efforts during the difficult days of 2020–2021.

Nearly 100 devoted Daughters have agreed to help spread the word about this year’s #GivingTuesday campaign and to function as fundraisers on DAR’s behalf. These volunteers are members of the DAR Philanthropy Network. Watch for their posts on social media or learn more from them at chapter events. Next week, we’ll highlight the many ornamental finishes and details that have been restored as part of the DAR Constitution Hall renovation.

The Hall looks marvelous — and I am anxious to welcome you home to see such details in person. Until then, I hope that you will consider helping us complete our financial obligations to finish this massive undertaking.  It is my goal to raise $1 million before June (to fund a project that now totals more than $14 million). As this is the final #GivingTuesday event of my administration, I hope that I can count on your participation in this historic campaign.

We are all Sol Sisters and Sunbeams — shining the light of DAR throughout our nation. Let us finish this effort in the proud tradition established by the women who went before us to plan, finance, construct and maintain our magnificent complex: together, each doing our own share.

You are my sunshine!

*Bracelets will be distributed in late January 2022. Supplies are limited.
