Have you ever wanted to search the DAR Americana Collection or images from the NSDAR Archives from the comfort of your home? Good news! We have been working behind the scenes to make this happen. We are delighted to report that we have also updated the DAR Department of Archives and History section of the DAR website in order to promote the helpful resources that are available for archival research about the National Society.

Begin by searching in the “Collections”  tab of the website, then choose which section interests you. The DAR Americana Collection contains imprints and manuscripts that span Colonial America through the early Republic. Whereas, the NSDAR Archives contain documents and photographs that document and represent the National Society’s history. Note that you must search the Americana Collection and the NSDAR Archives separately.

Both collections are searchable; however, only select items have been digitized. Those images that have been digitized will be displayed in the catalog record; those without images have not yet been digitized. We have digitized images for DAR projects, such as online exhibits, social media posts and outreach, all of which are available for discovery in the NSDAR Archives online catalog, and we expect to continue adding to those resources with additional images over time. Remember to check back often, as we are continuously adding digitized images to both catalogs. Though the catalog images are low resolution, you may find instructions for obtaining a high resolution images online.

In addition to the online catalog, we have also added a “Resources” section to our site. Here you may find helpful tools, such as a list of DAR history topics, a link to search the collections and the DAR Magazine digital archive.

Our online exhibits may still be enjoyed via the “Online Exhibitions” section of the website. Our most recent online exhibit, Women of Resilience: DAR Service in World War I, has been exceptionally popular, but you may find all of our previous online exhibits on this webpage, too. We will periodically add additional online exhibits that are based on DAR projects and exhibits that are displayed in the Americana Room. So, here, too – check back often!

We hope that you enjoy exploring the online catalog and the improvements to the DAR Department of Archives and History section of the DAR website. We look forward to your virtual visit and hope that these online resources will assist you with researching the DAR Americana Collection, as well as DAR history from your own computer or mobile device. Please keep checking back, as we continue to add digitized image to our catalog and update the page when new resources become available. Happy researching!
