Another Full Congress Day

Yesterday was a great first day of Congress week! There were many productive meetings and a lot was accomplished.

If you are interested in learning more about our wonderful DAR Library and how to use its resources, I encourage you to attend the DAR Library orientation this morning in the O’Byrne Gallery at Headquarters. DAR Library Director Stacie Newton will be giving an introduction to all things DAR Library.

Additionally this afternoon there is a special program, “News You Can Use – Tips from the Office of the Registrar General,” which will feature sessions with speakers covering different pertinent genealogy topics.

The National Chairs have created interactive and educational National Committee Video Presentations for you to learn more about their work.  Designed to benefit the entire membership, not just Congress attendees, you may use these brief videos as chapter programs, or just to become an informed member.  Watch them prior to Friday’s Service to America Night so you have an opportunity to bring your questions to the National Chairs.

Some of you may remember a special appeal to the President General’s Project in February that included a fabric square that you could personalize and then return to us to be made into three large quilts that showcase our mission. We were so pleased to have received a larger number of fabric squares from our members than anticipated. So not only do we have the three large quilts as planned, but we also have a fourth full sized quilt and three smaller quilts! The four 6’ x 6’ quilts are on display in the Pennsylvania Foyer in Memorial Continental Hall. The three 3’ x 3’ quilts are on display at the Development table at the Grand Hyatt, the Development table in DAR Constitution Hall (right next to Hamilton Jewelers) and in the Office of Development on the third floor of the Administration Building.

I am pleased to participate in the Gift Acceptance Ceremony this afternoon. This is such a wonderful opportunity to meet with these donors and to thank them for their many generous gifts to the National Society.

Later today I will be stopping by the Joint Meeting of the Congress Chairs and this evening I will stop by the National Vice Chairmen’s Association before attending the Illinois Supper and bringing greetings to the South Carolina Dessert Extravaganza. It is always a pleasure to see the many members at these events.

I hope those attending Congress have safe travels to Washington, D.C. I am looking forward to seeing everyone during tomorrow evening’s Opening Night Ceremony!  It is sure to be one of the most exciting nights of the week.
