I am so excited to have the opportunity to join fellow members on the Give a Hoot DAR Schools Bus Tour, which will take place October 5-12. Once during each administration, we organize a week-long tour to visit the five of the DAR supported schools and it is always so special to meet with the students and educators at these schools. The theme of the DAR School Committee is “Be wise, focus on the future with education,” symbolized by the wise owl, so we are of course having a lot of fun playing on the theme to get the message out to our members.
During the tour, 78 members and myself will travel on two buses, appropriately named the “Eagle” and “Owl” busses, to meet with students, staff and faculty to see the firsthand impact of our Friends of DAR Schools Fund at these DAR supported schools.
With the tour spanning eight states, this will be my first opportunity as President General to see how DAR is helping children to build a robust academic background, learn responsible citizenship and develop strong values.
For this tour we came up with a new way to promote what we will be doing during our visits and share our experiences with those who could not join us and so we have launched the Give a Hoot DAR Schools Bus Tour interactive campaign. We also wanted to use this opportunity to teach our members some of the ways we promote education around the country and how we help support our DAR Schools.
I invite you to follow the interactive campaign by visiting the Today’s DAR Facebook page and clicking on the tab for the DAR Social Hub. Over the next month you will be able to access this page and participate in quizzes and contests which highlight the impact DAR has on our six supported schools. Once the tour begins, this page will also contain photos, tweets and other social media posts from members who are on the DAR Schools Bus Tour. I am thrilled we will be able to share what we are doing in real time with all of you and I hope you will feel as if you are on the tour with us.
Our Friends of DAR Schools Fund is an important aspect of how we help support these schools. On the DAR Social Hub you will learn of a unique opportunity to be able to double the impact of your gift to the fund without having to double your donation and in the process learn how you may become eligible to purchase a Friends of the DAR Schools Fund pin. Thank you so much for your continued support of this fund!
