It's Starting to Look Like Congress at DAR Headquarters

Lynn Young, President General

Today officially begins my Congress week! Last week the Young Executives had our final Board Week, which was productive as always and bittersweet as well. We have so enjoyed working together these past three years. This morning we participated in our last service project together and washed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

This evening the Executive Club will have their dinner and I am looking forward to being with these lovely ladies.

Today the DAR Library is open to members from 9 am – 5 pm, which will give those in town early a great opportunity to work on research.

This weekend, set up began in Constitution Hall to prepare for this week’s events. Constitution Hall was the site of 48 graduations within recent weeks and the last one was Friday afternoon.  It is amazing to see all the hard work that goes into prepping for an event of this magnitude. Tables, computers and booths are being arranged to accommodate the members who will be arriving soon. Touch up painting has been completed and carpets are being cleaned. The state seals are hung around the interior of Constitution Hall and outside Headquarters the “Welcome Daughters” banner has been hung and the state flags have been posted along the Florida Drive on D Street. More preparations will continue as members begin to arrive in Washington, D.C.

I cannot wait for you all to see the refreshed Constitution Hall lobby. This restoration work took about a year and the results are beautiful. You can see the entire restoration process at www.dar.org/lobbyrestoration.

Tomorrow morning we will have a special wreath laying at the Daughters Tribute. This memorial serves as a reminder of all the women who contributed to our organization over its 125 year history. You can honor those members who made an impact on your membership here: www.dar.org/daughterstribute. Join us tomorrow morning at 8:30 am in the Memorial Garden on C Street.

This is going to be an exciting 125th Continental Congress! What a special milestone! We are looking forward to welcoming you!
