Dedications and Educational Opportunities at Congress

Lynn Young, President General

Happy Flag Day! Yesterday was a great first day of Congress week! There were many productive meetings and a lot was accomplished.

If you are interested in learning more about our wonderful DAR Library and how to use its resources, I encourage you to attend the DAR Library orientation this morning in the O’Byrne Gallery at Headquarters. Stacie Newton, Assistant Library Director, will be giving an introduction to all things DAR Library.

This afternoon, the DAR Museum will have their Correspondent Docent Workshop. This workshop introduces prospective and new correspondent docents to the DAR Museum’s resources, staff, programming, collections and exhibitions. What an excellent learning opportunity.

Be sure to drop off your bundles of cards to military for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM attempt at the tables located in the Constitution Hall lobby and the lower level of the Administration Building near the elevator. You can drop your cards at these tables anytime between today and Friday from 8 am – 4 pm. Be sure to be with us at the National Defense Night Ceremony on Saturday night to learn if we set the World Record.

This morning I will drop by the State Regent’s Club Brunch and the National Chair Association Brunch before going to Headquarters.

I am honored to invite you all to the dedication of the President General’s Plaque and the President General’s Portrait today. The Plaque located on the first floor, will serve as a reminder of all the amazing things we have accomplished together over the past three years. The portrait is on the second floor, near the elevator. This will be a wonderful time to reflect.

This afternoon I will be participating in the Gift Acceptance Ceremony. This will be such a wonderful opportunity to meet with these donors and to thank them for their tremendous gifts to the National Society.

Later today I will be stopping by the Joint Meeting of the Congress Chairs and this evening I will greet the National Vice Chairman Association at their dinner before attending the Illinois Supper and the South Carolina Dessert Extravaganza. I am excited to greet many members at these events.

I hope those of you attending the Washington Nationals baseball game tonight enjoy it! If you are interested in attending the game there is still time to get tickets. Learn more here. It should be a lovely night for baseball!

I hope those attending Congress have safe travels to Washington, D.C. I am looking forward to greeting everyone during tomorrow evening’s Opening Night Ceremony!
